New Publication About the Role of Probiotics in Supporting Elderly Subjects

Aging is associated with an increment in the incidence of inflammation and the susceptibility to gastrointestinal and respiratory infections mainly due to immunosenescence and inflammaging, that, concurring to the dysregulation of the immune system, produce a reduction in the efficacy of several therapies such for example vaccination. An important role in the age-related changes, is played by the gut microbiota, identified as a fundamental immune regulator, therefore rebalancing gut microbiota looks and interesting and promising approach to improve healthiness in elderly.
The clinical study carried out by the Complife scientific team showed that administration of a selected probiotic mixture on 50 elderly flu-vaccinated subjects reduced the incidence of gastrointestinal and respiratory disease symptoms; the treatment also induced a gut microbiota variation suggesting an innovative approach for elderly healthiness.
