A Nutraceutical approach to alleviate tired and heavy legs: New clinical evidence from Complife

Published On: 20 November 2025

Tired and heavy legs are among the most common symptoms associated with early-stage venous insufficiency. While often perceived as a minor discomfort, these sensations may represent early signs of vascular dysfunction and can significantly impact quality of life.

A recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, conducted by Complife Group and published in BMC Nutrition (2025), evaluated the efficacy of a flavonoid-based food supplement in alleviating leg discomfort in healthy subjects presenting with sensations of tired and heavy legs and telangiectasias (C1 according to the CEAP classification).

Study Overview

The study enrolled 122 participants, who received one tablet daily of the active supplement (570 mg flavonoid complex, 80% diosmin) or placebo for 56 days. Efficacy endpoints included the assessment of leg heaviness, tiredness, tingling, and the appearance and color of telangiectasias, along with a self-perceived efficacy questionnaire.

Key Findings

After 56 days of supplementation:

  • The sensation of heavy legs decreased by 41.7% (p < 0.05)
  • The sensation of tired legs decreased by 45.2% (p < 0.01)
  • The number of responders in the active group was approximately double that of the placebo group
  • 70% of participants showed an improvement in the color of telangiectasias, related to reduced hemoglobin accumulation
  • The supplement was well tolerated, with no adverse effects reported

Participants also reported a marked improvement in leg comfort, energy, and skin appearance, confirming both objective and subjective benefits.

Clinical Significance

These findings highlight the vasoactive potential of diosmin-based formulations in improving venous function and skin microcirculation, even at early stages of chronic venous disease. The study further supports the preventive role of nutraceuticals in maintaining vascular health and mitigating the progression of mild venous symptoms.

For individuals seeking non-invasive, well-tolerated solutions to improve leg well-being, this study offers robust scientific evidence for the efficacy and safety of diosmin-based supplementation.
