Does Lippia Citrodora helps adolescents with sleep & stress disorders?

Published On: 25 June 2025

Mental wellbeing and sleep quality in adolescents are increasingly under the spotlight. In this context, Complife published, together with Monteloeder SL, a new clinical study in the scientific journal Applied Sciences, exploring the effects of Lippia citrodora (Lemon Verbena) extract in healthy teenagers with stress and sleep disorders.

The 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial included boys and girls aged 12 to 16 years, who took a daily dose of verbascoside-standardized lemon verbena extract before bedtime.

Results revealed a significant improvement in sleep quality (ASWS scale) and a notable reduction in perceived stress (PSS-C scale) as early as the first month. These findings were supported by a measurable decrease in salivary cortisol levels. Additionally, clinical evaluation by a psychologist confirmed the treatment’s efficacy in 86% of the adolescents in the active group.
