IN & OUT approach: Oral probiotics & topical actives for skin health

Published On: 28 March 2025

Skin aging is influenced by multiple factors, including microbiome balance, environmental stressors, and skin barrier integrity.

This Complife study explores a well-aging strategy that integrates both oral and topical approaches to support skin health.

A clinical–instrumental trial was conducted on 96 Caucasian subjects with mild-to-moderate facial aging to assess the efficacy of oral probiotics (Lactobacillus plantarum PBS067, Lactobacillus reuteri PBS072, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus LRH020) in combination with topical ectoin and sodium hyaluronate.

The research focuses on evaluating the effects of this In & Out approach on key skin parameters such as hydration, elasticity, radiance, wrinkle depth, and skin barrier integrity. The study also investigates the role of the gut–skin axis and how microbiome-targeted interventions can contribute to a comprehensive skincare routine.
