AT THE END OF APRIL 2022 A NOTE FROM THE ITALIAN MINISTRY OF HEALTH WAS PUBLISHED, WHICH BRINGS TO THE ATTENTION OF FOOD SUPPLEMENT MANUFACTURERS THE NEED TO CARRY OUT A CHECK ON THE BREAKDOWN OF THESE PRODUCTS IN TABLETS.
Food supplements are now increasingly used on the market and – to protect consumers and ensure the quality of products – the Italian Ministry of Health aims to encourage through this note the adoption of a procedure that includes the disintegration test, in order to verify that the tablet disintegrates properly once taken, so that it can release all the nutrients contained in it.
Such a warning note to the producers comes from a test carried out by an Italian University, albeit on a limited number of samples, which demonstrates how only 1 supplement out of 4 is broken up correctly.
It will therefore be appropriate that all manufacturers of tablets, in case they do not have such a control already, implement the product quality plan by performing the disintegration test. It is advisable to do such a test even during stability studies.
Complife laboratories apply the most up-to-date methods of analysis and have the appropriate instruments to measure the time of disintegration and gastro-resistance of pharmaceutical forms and solid, oral and soft gel supplements, in accordance with the methods:
- 2.9.1 Disintegration of tablets and capsules
- 2.9.2Disintegration of suppositories and pessaries
- USP〈701〉 Disintegration
- USP〈2040〉 Disintegration and Dissolution of Dietary Supplements
- JP〈09〉 Disintegration
