Trophic / Energizing / Contraction efficacy efficacy is assessed using different techniques:
The extracellular matrix (ECM) dissociating enzymes (collagenase, elastase, hyaluronidase) are generally involved in cell metabolic pathways related to cell energy status, aging and skin trophic disorders. Biochemical assays can be useful to measure the marker enzyme activity, as well as the biological assays on cell fibroblasts are utilized in order to evaluate cell proliferation and protein metabolism, ECM component synthesis (collagen, elastin, glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid) and mitochondrial activation assay (cell staining with JC1). Fibroblast contraction (collagen and lattice gel matrix) may also be screened by evaluating the matrix diameter size.
