Repeated Open Application Test (ROAT):
ROAT is among the most frequently used tests for finished cosmetic products.
The product to be tested is repeatedly applied on a small area of the forearm skin for 15 days. Skin reactions (redness, swelling, vesicles) are assessed by a highly trained assessor (dermatologist). ROAT mimics real-life exposure situations by involving a limited application area; it is suitable to assess
product tolerability and to confirm any unfavorable outcomes from patch testing.
