The particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) is composed by tiny particles in the air that cause the air to appear hazy and greyish. Although the micro-particles do not penetrate the skin, they have an influence on it affecting its barrier efficacy, causing dryness, acne, inflammation and skin ageing. The antipollution effect of cosmetic products is assessed, in situ (directly on the skin), by means of the skin stripping technique and the measurement of substances in the particulate matter.
